Who We Help
Who We Help
Dr. Cohen works with families of children, adolescents, and young adults who are struggling — and whose struggles have moved beyond what traditional outpatient therapy can address. In most cases, the person reaching out is a parent or guardian.
Therapeutic treatment programs are generally designed around three age-based groups. Understanding which group your loved one falls into helps shape which types of programs are considered. That said, the right match always depends on far more than age alone — which is why the consultation process matters so much.
Ages 10 to 13
Pre-Adolescents
This group is often referred for placement when early signs of mental health struggles appear — school refusal, defiance, emotional dysregulation, or social withdrawal. Programs for this age group prioritize structure, nurturing environments, and academic consistency.
Ages 14 to 17
Adolescents
This is the most commonly served age group. Adolescents referred for placement may be struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, school avoidance, risky behavior, or substance use. Programs focus on therapy, academic support, peer relationships, and building healthy independence.
Ages 18 to 30
Young Adults
This group includes individuals who are stalled in their transition to adulthood — struggling with motivation, independence, employment, or relationships. Programs for young adults emphasize life skills, accountability, and autonomy, with therapeutic support woven in.
This Is Not Just for Teenagers
Therapeutic placement is not only for adolescents in crisis. Young adults who are failing to launch, stuck, or struggling with mental health or substance use challenges have options too — and Dr. Cohen has experience placing individuals across all three age groups.
